Exciting visit from the Stryker Trauma Truck to Helios Hospital in Schwerin

On May 7, Dr. Michael Bau and Karen Wachholz from ILAG had the opportunity to visit the Stryker Trauma Truck as part of the ERTRAG project. Organized by the Center for Trauma Surgery, Orthopedics, and Hand Surgery, Stryker's mobile training lab rolled up to the trauma surgery/traumatology department at Helios Clinic in Schwerin on May 6 and 7, 2025.

Twelve meters long and expandable on both sides, the truck is fully equipped with high-quality orthopedic and surgical medical technology (including implants, surgical instruments, and nail and fixation systems) to conduct medical training outside the sterile operating room under realistic conditions.

Together with students, surgical assistants, and both novice and experienced surgeons, participants were able to learn about, deepen their knowledge of, practice, and try out proven and new treatment methods and surgical techniques at eight different stations. Artificial bones provided a realistic feel for the procedures.

In addition to practical training, the truck also offers the opportunity to complete learning units in a virtual operating room using VR technology: a training experience that goes far beyond theoretical knowledge thanks to the haptic experience and personal hands-on learning, and which benefits all professional groups.

Through dialogue with medical users, new ideas and insights can be gained that contribute to the ongoing development of the products.

In a stimulating learning atmosphere, the ILAG team was able to gain many impressions and experience the challenges and physical demands of this medical profession: Trauma surgery is a real bone-breaking job that requires not only professional expertise but also a great deal of muscle power.
