ERTRAG meets Oulu: A Participative Journey

A Travel Sketch: Whiteboard from the workshop with the team from Oulu

“Thank you so much for joining our team. I’m looking forward to working with your amazing team. There are so many possibilities”: With these words, Prof. Dr. Kristina Mikkonen from Oulu responded to an online workshop hosted by ILAG on the participatory process model in the ERTRAG project on August 25, 2026.

Prof. Dr. Mikkonen and her transdisciplinary team from the HealthEduCom Lab conduct research at the University of Oulu, Finland, in the field of hybrid intelligence and education using digital technologies in healthcare.

Dr. Adjan Hansen-Ampah and Dr. Andrea Altepost from ILAG took the participants from Oulu on a condensed journey through the participatory process, from idea generation to the MTO workshop. “Along the way,” as they quickly tested some of the participatory formats, the Finnish colleagues were able to reflect on how XR could support their own work—an interesting shift in perspective for the team, which normally facilitates the use of XR in healthcare settings. Another exchange focusing on the experiences and projects of the HealthEduCom Lab is already in the works. Many thanks, Kristina & Team—we’re very much looking forward to more joint activities!
